United States Air Force Orders Global ER-2875 Deicers
July 29, 2002 -- Global Ground Support, Olathe, KS, announces recent completion of performance and air transportability tests by the United States Air Force of its newest aircraft deicer - the ER-2875. This 75-foot deicer is Global's newest in a long line of innovative equipment. It allows the USAF to accomplish aircraft deicing of the C5 and C17 military aircraft - especially the tail sections that are up to 65' high. Typical deicers, including all of Global's other models, are mounted on commercially available truck chassis. The units include a boom, supply tanks and pumping and heating systems to provide a complete de/anti-icing operation from heights up to 40' while driving the truck around the aircraft at speeds up to 4 mph.
The ER-2875 provides all of the features of the regular equipment at heights up to 40'; however, for maximum safety and efficiency at heights above 40', the operator deploys a set of four stabilizers. A safety interlock system ensures that the truck is stopped and the transmission is in neutral before the stabilizers may be deployed and the operator is allowed to reach the additional 30'.
A special benefit to the USAF is the ability to reach the tail of the C5 and C17 without the use of a high lift maintenance platform - the ER-2875 can accomplish the task on its own. In addition, for the first time ever, the USAF will be able to utilize the forced air capabilities to remove snow from the tail section of the C5 and C17 with wing span of approximately 60 feet. Global's AirPlus!TM system included on the ER-2875 reduces glycol consumption up to as much as 70%.
The USAF recently purchased three units for Elmendorf AFB, AK, McChord AFB, WA and Dover AFB, DE. Global anticipates receiving additional orders from the US military and International markets.
